Iowa whitewater, Cedar River

Linn county, Kepler State Park section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III     0.1 miles

I drove there from Colorado because i heard there was a whitewater park built here, but didn't find one. It looked like there could be a wave there at some point but no eddy service. Is it possible I went to the wrong place? I went to Palisades-Kepler state park, at the bottom of the hill at the river, it was a wide open flat river with a low head dam that had been partially removed with a small rapid in it but nothing i could really play on.
Is there another one somewhere else in Iowa that is running right now? Says Cari M

If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that a
lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Cedar Rapids, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Cedar River is 0.1 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large
number of other places. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Kepler State Park section is one of them. This section is very short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The natural beauty of Iowa and the cool fresh water have people coming here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
