  This stretch of Raccoon River in Iowa is 0.01 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The nature scenery of Iowa and the water flowing gracefully down Raccoon River make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Iowa is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. This is one of a small number of paddling
    stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The campgrounds here at Raccoon River are pretty good. This stretch is very short
so no need to bring snacks. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Fort Dodge, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots.

Briefly about the general area:
 
This is a popular place for folks from Jefferson, and Springbrook State Park is a wonderful place to check out on a beautiful day. Going to Spring Lake County Park near Raccoon River is a good thing to do. Throughout the warm days of summer, highs mostly are in the 80's at Raccoon River, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. During the wintertime highs are regularly in the 20's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Raccoon River fall into the 0's. Raccoon River is a good site of common rain. June is when you get the most rain here while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
