  The starting location is a short drive from Corbin, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Laurel River is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(IV) section. The nature scenery of Laurel County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The average Kentucky whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states,
    so keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. There's camping available near Laurel River. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Below Laurel River Lake section is one
of them. When you're paddling down a Cumberland Plateau Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because  
these hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more.

Briefly about the general area:
No need to travel far to take a look at attention-grabbing stuff like Long Bend. A visit to Cumberland Falls State Park when you're here at Laurel River is never a bad idea, and going for a hike on the Sheltowee Trace Trail is always a good adventure. This river is a wonderful place to visit. People from Keavy love to come to Laurel River, and there are pleasant places to explore along the Bark Camp Trail. Summer at Laurel River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's.
