The Gorge takeout to Elkhorn City stretch of Russell Fork is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class II(III) section by American Whitewater. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. There's camping available     near Russell Fork. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The beautiful Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks. The nature scenery of Kentucky and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. If you're coming from Kingsport-Bristol it's not a long drive   at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: Pool Point is right next door to Russell Fork and is a nice place to go to, and a great place like Breaks Interstate Park. is too great to leave out. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. This is a popular location for people from Belcher; Skegg Gap is also a good place to look at. This river is so wonderful. While you're here at Russell Fork you can take a hike along the Pine Mountain Trail. Russell Fork gets a good deal of water.
