If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Kentucky you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Lexington-Fayette, there's a road map further down     the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The wonderful Kentucky scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Briefly about   the general area: Tates Creek is a location with many visitors from Richmond. Fort Boonesborough State Park is both great and picturesque, and it's near Tates Creek. During the warm months here at Tates Creek, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 30's; throughout the dark hours in the winter at Tates Creek temperatures fall to the 20's. Tates Creek is a wet place that gets lots of rain. The month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and October is when it's the driest.
