Maine whitewater, Allagash Stream

Piscataquis county, Allagash Lake to Chamberlain Lake section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     5.5 miles
The starting location is a reasonable drive from Bangor, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Allagash Lake to Chamberlain Lake stretch of Allagash Stream in Maine is 5.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. There are a few other stretches in this river system that
can be paddled as well. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The wonderful Piscataquis County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Allagash Stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Maine are easier than the national norm, so don't forget that many of the sections
in this state are safe for beginners.
