  The natural beauty of Aroostock County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The Fort Fairfield to Saint John River stretch of Aroostook River in Aroostock County is 4.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-V section of whitewater. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one
    day trip. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other places. A good workout and just hanging
out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.

If you're going to Aroostook River from Fort Fairfield, you won't be the only one; you can hit the slopes at Bigrock nearby. At Aroostook River throughout the summertime months highs are in the 70's, and the overnight is
 
somewhat colder of course, frequently in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 10's while Aroostook River night low temperatures through the wintertime are in the-10's.
