  The starting point is not too far from Augusta-Waterville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The beautiful scenery of Somerset County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The campgrounds here at Austin Stream
    are pretty good. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the South Branch to Bingham section is one of them. The South Branch to Bingham stretch of Austin Stream is 0.2 miles long and is rated by American
Whitewater as a class III-V(V+) section. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is an extremely short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier  
than elsewhere, so better not forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners.

A short visit to Austin Stream Falls is always worthwhile, and you'll meet a lot of people from Bingham here. Throughout the summertime here at Austin Stream, high temperatures commonly get into the 70's. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 50's.
