The beautiful scenery of Aroostock County and the water flowing gracefully down Big Black River will make you feel great. This section of Big Black River is 22.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the
    night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots
in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. The Depot Stream to Saint John River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. There's camping available near Big Black River. Great exercise  
and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here.

Briefly about the general area:
A good place in close proximity to Big Black River is Western Ledge. Big Black River is a good location of common rainfall. July is when you get the most rain here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. At Big Black River during the warmest time of the year highs are in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. During the wintertime the highs are frequently in the 20's, and overnight lows in the-10's for Big Black River.
