  The natural beauty of Maine and the water flowing gracefully down Big Wilson Stream make the trip here worthwhile. The put-in location is a short drive from Bangor, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere.
    You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river
system, there are others too. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch of Big Wilson Stream in Maine is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class I-V(V+) section by American Whitewater. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop  
paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip.

Briefly about the general area:
If the weather is great here at Big Wilson Stream, you can go for a hike along the Gulf Hagas Trail. Peaks-Kenny State Park is worth taking a look at if you're at Big Wilson Stream, and on a perfect day you can take a hike along the Northwest Ridge Road. At this river you will always have a good time. There are plenty of folks from Guilford here at Big Wilson Stream. For the period of the warmest time of the year at Big Wilson Stream temperatures are generally in the 70's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's.
