CLASS IV-V+     4 miles
  This stretch of Black Brook in Oxford County is 4 miles long and is a class IV-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Lewiston-Auburn, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Maine are easier than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this
    state are less demanding. The campgrounds here at Black Brook are pretty good. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. On this section you do get some distance,
it's good length for a morning trip. The beautiful scenery of Maine and the cool fresh water beats anything. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The White Mountains scenery is wonderful. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but  
if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

Briefly about the general area:
The snow is good at Black Mountain, and there is a perfect hiking trail close by called the Angel Falls Trail. And that's not all you can do here in the White Mountains. Don't leave Black Brook without going to Grafton Notch State Park; nearby you stumble on the Bemis Stream Trail which is a delightful hiking trail. This river has so much to offer. A visit to Black Brook wouldn’t be complete without a journey to nearby Rangeley Lake State Park. Silver Ripple Cascade is a glorious local attraction; during your visit here you'll meet some folks from East Andover for sure.
