CLASS I-IV     20 miles
  This section of Carrabasset in Maine is 20 miles long and has been rated as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Augusta-Waterville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good
    rivers for that around here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beautiful scenery of
Franklin Somerset County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This stretch is long  
enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag.

Briefly about the general area:
Here at Carrabasset you'll perhaps meet some people from North Anson, and you can have a wonderful hiking adventure along the Arnolds Trail. Summertime at Carrabasset comes with high temperatures in the 70's. Summer night lows drop down to the 50's. During the wintertime the highs are regularly in the 20's while Carrabasset nighttime low temperatures all through the winter are in the 0's. Carrabasset gets a normal amount of yearly rainfall. November is the month that gets the most snow; February is when it's the driest.
