CLASS II-III     12 miles
The scenic beauty of Maine and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. The North Waterford to East Waterford stretch of Crooked River in Oxford County is 12 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Lewiston-Auburn, as you can see on the road map further down. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the North Waterford to
East Waterford stretch is just one of many. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting
and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The wild scenery of the White Mountains is great. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. Whether you're whitewater rafting
or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.

Briefly about the general area:
Crooked River is a place with many visitors from Brownfield; going for a hike on the Albany Brook Trail is always a good adventure. Now, you may assume that's a lot but there's even more amusing things to do here in the White Mountains. Gotta ski! Mount Abram is a pleasant spot to do that, and there are good spots to explore along the Albany Mountain Trail. This river is always fun. A common amount of precipitation falls here at Crooked River. The month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
