Maine whitewater, Damariscotta River

Lincoln county, Reversing Falls section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     1.4 miles

This paddle is incorrectly described as being on the Damariscotta River. The reversing falls of Sheepscot Village are on the Sheepscot River! Please correct his error. Thanks. Says Michael Herz - Sheepscot Valley Conservation Assn.

The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This
stretch of Damariscotta River is 1.4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. The campgrounds here at Damariscotta River are pretty good. A bit of exercise and just hanging out
with mother nature have people coming from far and near. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Reversing Falls section is one of them. The scenic beauty of Lincoln County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is an extremely short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit
away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The put-in is not too far from Augusta-Waterville, as you can see on the road map further down.

Briefly about the general area:
Wiley Point is close at hand and always pleasant to stop at, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Damariscotta River; Hockomock Nature Trail is a fine local trail. You'll meet a lot of folks from Walpole here, and you can always enjoy a lazy day on the beach at Pemaquid Beach.
