  The natural beauty of Maine and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. The starting point is not too far from Lewiston-Auburn, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.     River - South Branch is 5.8 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. If you've been whitewater
rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Dallas School to Langston Mill section is just one of many. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots  
for that around here.

Briefly about the general area:
Going to Rangeley Lake State Park right next door to Dead River - South Branch is a good thing to do; beautiful scenery and good skiing is what you obtain at Saddleback. Have a glorious hiking adventure along the Piazza Rock Trail; you're sure to encounter some nice folks from Rangeley here. This is such a fun river. Going for a hike along the Bemis Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. Dead River - South Branch is a good place of normal rain. August is the wettest month with most rain while February is generally the driest month.
