  The natural beauty of Aroostook County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Depot Lake to Big Black River stretch of Depot Stream in Maine is 19 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The campgrounds
    here at Depot Stream are pretty good. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Depot Lake to Big Black
River stretch is one of them. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack  
your camping stuff.

Briefly about the general area:
Depot Stream gets a typical amount of precipitation. Through the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is February. For the period of the warmest time of the year here at Depot Stream, high temperatures mostly reach the 70's, and the overnight is a tad cooler of course, commonly in the 50's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 20's; winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Depot Stream.
