Anywhere else down river of the dam until the Mill Pond is Private Property/No Trespassing! There is access about a mile up river of the dam at an old railroad bridge/power line right-of-way, but this area of the river is usually slow moving. The Brattle Street to Leighs Mill Pond stretch of Great Works River in Maine is 1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This section is very short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large   number of rivers in this state are quite easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The scenic beauty of York County and the water flowing gracefully down Great Works River are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
