If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners.     The Monroe Center to West Winterport section of Marsh Stream in Maine is 9.5 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. Briefly about the   general area: Swan Lake State Park is a glorious site to stretch your legs a bit, and everyone close by loves skiing at New Hermon Mountain. One of the best things about Marsh Stream is its proximity to Cals Beach, and if you're visiting from Monroe, you won't be the only one. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. Beaches are great; and Spragues Beach close to Marsh Stream is no exception, and Moose Point State Park is a striking location any time of year.
