The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. The natural beauty of Piscataquis County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Musquacook Stream in Maine is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II |
section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some
| kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you're coming from Bangor it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: Take a hike on the Chase Carry, and hiking along the Telephone Trail is wonderful fun. At Musquacook
Stream through the summer months highs are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. For the period of the winter the highs are usually in the 20's while Musquacook Stream night low temperatures
during the winter are in the-10's. Musquacook Stream gets a common amount of rainfall. The month with most of the rain is July while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
