Maine whitewater, Nezinscot River

Androscoggin county, Headwaters to Androscoggin River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

This river was fantastic for swimming in. I got about 10 leeches on me though. All well! Says Jill Wollygag

The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often more forgiving than in other states, so don't forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. The wonderful Androscoggin County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Headwaters to Androscoggin River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater
rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you're coming from Lewiston-Auburn it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch is long enough for
an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.
