The starting point is not too far from Bangor, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Washington County and the water flowing gracefully down Northern Inlet attract people from near and far. The Rt. 191 to Mud Landing stretch of Northern Inlet is 3.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in |
one stretch. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the
| Rt. 191 to Mud Landing section is one of them. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Briefly about the general area: Lots of folks from Machias come to Northern Inlet, and you can spend the day on the beach
at Jasper Beach. A tremendous place like Roque Bluffs State Park near Northern Inlet is too glorious to leave out; during your stay here do stop by close by Grays Beach. Lots of fun awaits you along this river. Northern
Inlet is a wet location that gets a good deal of rain. Most of the rain falls all through November, and June meanwhile is the driest month. The warmest time of the year at Northern Inlet arrives with high temperatures in the 70's.
