The scenic beauty of Maine and the water flowing gracefully down Oyster River beats anything. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the West Rockport to Warren stretch is one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so     if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The West Rockport to Warren section of Oyster River in Knox County is 11.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camping stuff too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking   or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Briefly about the general area: Really good skiing awaits you at Camden, and hiking along the Ragged Mountain Trail is tremendous fun. Hit the beach if you want, Laite Memorial Beach is practically right here, and during your visit here you'll meet some people from Thomaston for sure. This river is so perfect. On a great day it's a wonderful idea to spend the day at Lucia Beach. Going for a hike along the Mount Battie Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area. Camden Hills State Park is a pleasant site to go to on a beautiful day.
