Says J Barter The natural beauty of Lincoln County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The starting point is not too far from Augusta-Waterville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking     in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Bristol to Pemaquid section is one of them. The campgrounds here at Pemaquid River are pretty good. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This section of Pemaquid River is 5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if   you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: The smiling folks of Bristol like to hang out close by, and Damariscotta Lake State Park is both great and gorgeous. Enjoy a lazy day on the beach at Pemaquid Beach, and the Hockomock Nature Trail is a great hiking trail close by. This river is a great place to visit. For the period of the long summer days here at Pemaquid River, high temperatures frequently reach the 70's. All through the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's.
