  The put-in location is a short drive from Augusta-Waterville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. The natural beauty of Somerset County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find
    lots of paddling rivers. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too.

Going for a hike along the Alder Brook Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this
 
area. While you're here at Penobscot River - South Branch you will meet lots of folks from nearby Jackman. Hiking along the Bald Mountain Trail is magnificent fun.
