  The beautiful scenery of Penobscot County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. This section of Penobscot River - West Branch in Penobscot County is 6.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Quackish Dam to Shad Pond section is just one of them. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The put-in location

destination. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.
