If you're coming from Bangor it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The average Maine whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit     easier to master than those in other states, so better not forget that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Medford to Maxfield section is one of them. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. The scenic beauty of Maine and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter,   in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: There's good hiking along the Hardy Pond Trail, and you're sure to bump into some friendly people from Lagrange here. Good hiking is available along the Scutaze Trail. At Piscataquis River throughout the warm days of summer highs are in the 70's. During the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. Through the winter the highs are regularly in the 20's, and night lows all through the winter for Piscataquis River tend to be in the-10's.
