Maine whitewater, Pleasant River

Cumberland county, US 302 to River Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-III     4 miles

My girlfriend and I just ran this section of the Pleasant last weekend (Memorial Day '08). The water was so low that we ended up walking half the river. Downed trees were also a major inconvenience that caused us to portage on over 10 occasions, sometimes in very mucky, slippery spots. The two cliff drops, however, were the saving grace. the first is a Class III ledge drop of 6 feet in two stages. the second was a class II. Both occurred after
the intersection with Pope Rd, so save yourself some time and put in there. Says Corey

Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that the rivers in this state
are less demanding. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The beautiful scenery of Cumberland County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There's camping available near Pleasant River. Pleasant River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the US 302 to River Road section is the only one. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.
