Oxford county, Pond in River to Lake Umbagog section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV     5.25 miles

The map shows the put in, but how do you get to it?  What roads do you take?  Appreciate any directions anyone can give me. Says Bruce

If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. This stretch of Rapid River in Maine is 5.25 miles long and has been rated as a class IV section
by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Maine and the cool fresh water beats anything. The beautiful White Mountains scenery is an added bonus. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter,
this is an area with plenty of places for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There's camping available near Rapid River. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. The put-in location is a short drive from Berlin, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Pond in River to Lake Umbagog
section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come.
