  The wonderful Piscataquis County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. This stretch of Roach River in Piscataquis County is 6.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bangor, please print
    out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. Whitewater
rafting and kayaking spots in Maine tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.

Why not take a refreshing hike along the Number Four Mountain Trail, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Big Squaw. There are plenty of folks from Greenville here at Roach River, and a splendid place like Lily Bay State Park is too good to leave out. This river is always fun. The Big Spencer Mountain Trail offers hiking at its best. Throughout the warm months here at Roach River, high temperatures mostly get into the 70's with nighttime lows in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's, and night lows in the-10's for Roach River.
