Maine whitewater, Royal River Cumberland county, Yarmouth Waterworks to Town Landing section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-IV     1 miles   This stretch of Royal River is 1 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people     prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. The put-in is not too far from Portland-South Portland, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is a very short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Yarmouth Waterworks to Town Landing section is one of them. The beautiful scenery of Cumberland County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Briefly   about the general area: Sandy Point Ledges is a great spot to have a look at close by, and visiting Bradbury Mountain State Park is a good thing to do. Not far from Royal River you find Callen Point; Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park is a fine location to check out on a beautiful day. A river like this is too good to miss. If you're visiting Royal River from Yarmouth, you won't be the only one; while here here do pop by nearby East End Beach. Time spent at Andrews Beach close to Royal River is always good. Through the days of summer at Royal River highs are usually in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's.
