  The starting location is a reasonable drive from Bangor, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Maine scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The New Dunn Town Road to Aroostook River section of Salmon Brook is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon
    trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance
because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.

from Washburn, and Aroostook State Park is a great location to stretch your legs a bit. Salmon Brook is right by the Old Dam Tote Road. During the summer months highs here at Salmon Brook get into the 70's. Summer overnight lows fall down to the 50's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 10's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at Salmon Brook. An average amount of rainfall falls at Salmon Brook. Through August this area sees the most rain; the driest month is February.
