  If you're coming from Lewiston-Auburn it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Franklin County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better
    keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance
because these hotels fill up quick. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Phillips  
through town stretch is just one of many. The Phillips through town stretch of Sandy River in Maine is 2.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
Everybody nearby loves skiing at Sugarloaf USA, and naturally, everybody loves Mt. Blue State Park. People from Phillips love to come to Sandy River, and there is a magnificent hiking trail nearby called the Brook Trail. This river is so wonderful. On a great day at Sandy River you can take a hike along the Piazza Rock Trail. During the summer here at Sandy River, high temperatures typically reach the 70's while night lows are commonly in the 50's.
