  The Phillips to Fairbanks Bridge stretch of Sandy River in Franklin County is 17 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Lewiston-Auburn, as you can see on the road map further down. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you
    might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. The natural beauty of Franklin County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream
are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Phillips to Fairbanks Bridge section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. The campgrounds here at Sandy River are pretty good. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.

Mt. Blue State Park is worth taking a look at if you're at Sandy River, and the slopes of Titcomb are so inviting noone can resist. During your trip to Sandy River you'll meet some folks from Temple for sure. Much precipitation falls at Sandy River. November is the wettest month with most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summertime at Sandy River comes with high temperatures in the 70's with nighttime lows in the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's, and overnight lows in the 0's for Sandy River.
