Maine whitewater, Sandy River

Franklin county, Farmington Falls to New Sharon section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     6 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Maine are easier than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. The Farmington Falls to New Sharon stretch of Sandy River is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. A good workout and just
hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance
then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. If you're coming from Augusta-Waterville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of Franklin County and the playfulness of
the water make the trip here worthwhile.
