The scenic beauty of Piscataquis Penobscot County and the water flowing gracefully down Sandy Stream beats anything. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state |

| to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: Good hiking is available along the Chimney Pond Trail; Pickerel Cove is nearby and always nice to stop at. Go
for a hike on the Sand Bank Trail. Sandy Stream is a good location of normal precipitation. The month of July is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month is February. Through the summertime months at Sandy Stream
temperatures are regularly in the 70's, and the overnight is rather colder of course, usually in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's while Sandy Stream overnight low temperatures through the winter are in the-10's.
