The average Maine whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. This stretch has     has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The nature scenery of Somerset County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: You'll meet a lot of folks from New Portland here, and there's good hiking   along the Arnolds Trail. The Ledges is an exciting thing to spot if you're here at Sandy Stream. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Sandy Stream; during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are commonly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Sandy Stream are in the 0's. A normal amount of rain falls here at Sandy Stream.
