  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. The nature scenery of Waldo Lincoln County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Augusta-Waterville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
    This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Sheepscot Pond to Somerville stretch is just one of them. This section of Sheepscot River is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a
class II section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. On this  
section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip.

Briefly about the general area:
There are plenty of people from Palermo here at Sheepscot River. Lake St. George State Park is both perfect and pretty, and it's near Sheepscot River, and Damariscotta Lake State Park is a good location to visit on a wonderful day. This river is so great. For the duration of the warm days of summer at Sheepscot River highs are usually in the 80's, and the nighttime is fairly colder of course, generally in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 30's while Sheepscot River overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 0's.
