The natural beauty of Somerset County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Maine tend to be more forgiving than the national average,     so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. This stretch of Spencer Stream is 7.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-IV section of whitewater. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Logging Br to Dead River stretch is one of them. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Briefly about the   general area: Good hiking is available along the Bigelow Range Trail; Sugarloaf USA has good slopes and a friendly staff. Don't leave Spencer Stream without first going for a hike along the Fire Warden Trail. The annual rain here at Spencer Stream is about average. July is the wettest month with most rain; February on the other hand is the driest. At Spencer Stream throughout the months of summer highs are in the 70's with nighttime lows in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's while Spencer Stream nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the-10's.
