  The put-in is not too far from Augusta-Waterville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maine is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. The scenic beauty of Somerset County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here
    to paddle. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are some good sections to paddle in this river
system, the Fourth St John Pond to Baker Lake Outlet section is one of them. This stretch of St. John River - SW Branch in Somerset County is 26.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a  
large number of good spots.
