  The wonderful Maine scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Sunday River beats anything. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Lewiston-Auburn, as you can see on the road map further down. There are a few other stretches in this river system that
    can be paddled as well. The wild scenery of the White Mountains is great. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people
coming here. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. This stretch of Sunday River is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

general area:
Near Sunday River you come across the Albany Notch Trail which is a tremendous hiking trail. Don't leave Sunday River without going to Grafton Notch State Park; there is a great hiking trail nearby called the Caribou Trail. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. Head up to Sunday River and strap some skis to your feet, and if you're stopping by from Hanover, you won't be the only one. Throughout the warmest time of the year at Sunday River highs are frequently in the 70's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 50's. Through the wintertime the highs are regularly in the 20's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Sunday River temperatures descend to the-10's.
