  The beautiful scenery of Maine and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maine are often easier than in other states, so better not forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. The Rt 17 Bridge to Mexico section of Swift River in Maine is 13 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. You might
    be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and
if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Rt 17 Bridge to Mexico stretch is one of them. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The put-in location is a short drive from Lewiston-Auburn, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page  
so you won’t get lost. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The river winds through the White Mountains and you get great scenery.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't leave Swift River without first going for a hike along the Chimney Trail. A good place like Mt. Blue State Park close to Swift River is too great to leave out, and tremendous hiking is available along the Brook Trail. This river is a great place to visit. This is a popular location for people from Rumford, and a day on the slopes of Black Mountain is just what you need.
