The Highway 68 to Potomac River stretch of Antietam Creek in Maryland is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maryland is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners.     There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Highway 68 to Potomac River stretch is just one of many. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. The beautiful scenery of Maryland and the water flowing gracefully down Antietam Creek make the trip here worthwhile. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. You   can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. Briefly about the general area: There is a splendid hiking trail near Antietam Creek called the Snavelys Ford Trail, and a journey to Antietam Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Sharpsburg Spring. Greenbrier State Park is a wonderful place, and a wooded region close by is East Woods. A river like this is too good to miss. At Antietam Creek you always meet someone from Keedysville. Near Antietam Creek you discover the Appalachian National Scenic Trail which is a perfect hiking trail.
