The starting location is a short drive from Lancaster, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of Maryland and the cool fresh water have people coming here. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.     Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Maryland is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Oakwood to Susquehanna River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Conowingo Creek, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's.
