The starting location is a reasonable drive from Cumberland, as you can see on the road map further down. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily     run it on an afternoon. The average Maryland whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The wonderful Garrett County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds   nearby. Briefly about the general area: Hungry Hollow is a good place to spend some time at, and Crabtree Creek is a spot with many visitors from Swanton. Really great skiing awaits you at Wisp. Summertime highs at Crabtree Creek regularly tend to be in the 80's. Summer night lows dip down to the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's, and nighttime lows at Crabtree Creek during the wintertime regularly dip into the 10's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Crabtree Creek a wet site. During July this area sees the most rain; the driest month of the year is February.
