  The wonderful Maryland scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Maryland you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. The starting location is a short drive from Cumberland, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.
    Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because
it is a very popular destination. This stretch of Flintstone Creek in Allegany County is 3.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. You might be into  
whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.

Briefly about the general area:
The Burnt Mills Trail is a good hiking trail in the vicinity of Flintstone Creek, and you're sure to come across some friendly folks from Oldtown here. On a magnificent day at Flintstone Creek you can take a hike along the Gum Spring Trail. The amount of precipitation that falls at Flintstone Creek is close to the national average. July is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest of the months is January. During the long summer days at Flintstone Creek highs are frequently in the 80's while night lows are usually in the 50's.
