The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Maryland are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. The Lantz to Rocky Ridge Road section of Owens Creek in Maryland is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American     Whitewater. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Briefly about the general area: A great forest near Owens Creek is Blacks Hilltop Orchard, and Eylers Valley is a great place to visit. Owens Creek is right by the High Rock Nature Trail; why not head up to Ski Liberty and strap some skis to your feet. A river like this is too good to miss. Take a hike on the Cunningham Falls Nature Trail; the great people of Thurmont like to hang out nearby. If time allows, Catoctin Mountain Park is a national park worth visiting. The annual rainfall here at Owens Creek is about average. May is when you get the most rain here while February is regularly the driest month.
