The scenic beauty of Maryland and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend     a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. This section of Patuxent River is 15.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II(IV) section of whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. Briefly about the general area: Patuxent River is a spot   with many visitors from Columbia. Patapsco Valley State Park is a great spot to stretch your legs a bit; a journey to Greenbelt Park is worthwhile. This is a great river. There's a great forest right next door to Patuxent River called Symphony Woods. For the duration of the warm days of summer at Patuxent River highs are generally in the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Patuxent River. Patuxent River regularly gets a lot of precipitation. May is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month is January.
