Maryland whitewater, Rock Creek Mongomery county, Rockville to Military Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.     If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Maryland you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. The scenic beauty of Mongomery County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Rockville to Military Road section     is one of them. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section of Rock Creek is -blank- miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I(II) section. If you're coming from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Briefly about the general area: It's always fine to pop by All Pure Spring, and time spent at Bathing Beach is always good. Going to Seneca Creek State Park in the   neighborhood of Rock Creek is a perfect thing to do, and Rock Creek is right by the Paw Paw Passage Trail. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. While you're here at Rock Creek you will meet lots of folks from nearby Rockville. Take a hike on the Gold Mine Trail, and if you're looking for a glorious trip, Glen Echo Park is rather near. Patuxent River State Park is a delightful place to go to on a delightful day. Rock Creek gets a normal amount of rain. Most of the rain falls during May, and the driest of the months is February.
