The Route 2 hairpin turn to Deerfield River section of Cold River in Franklin County is 4.25 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with
    plenty of spots for that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. This stretch has has enough mileage,
it's perfect for a one day trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The natural beauty of Franklin County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Route 2 hairpin turn to Deerfield River stretch is one of them.

pleasant hiking along the Dunbar Brook Trail; Mohawk Trail State Forest is a splendid site to stop by on a beautiful day. At Cold River you always meet someone from Rowe; Monroe State Forest is both splendid and lovely. This river is always fun. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Berkshire East; the Busby Trail offers hiking at its best. From a rainfall point of view Cold River is a relatively common place. The wettest month of the year is mostly August, that's the one that rains the most, and February meanwhile is the driest month. Through the months of summer at Cold River highs are usually in the 70's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
