  The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Massachusetts are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The scenic beauty of Massachusetts and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're coming from Bennington it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's
    a road map further down the page. This is a pretty short section so no need to bring snacks. The South Road to Deerfield River stretch of Dunbar Brook is 2.7 miles long and has been rated as a class V section by American
Whitewater. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There's camping available near Dunbar Brook. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This is one of a small number  
of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.

Briefly about the general area:
You'll meet a lot of folks from Monroe Bridge here; on a fine day you can take a hike along the Busby Trail. Going to Monroe State Forest close to Dunbar Brook is a perfect thing to do, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Dunbar Brook Trail. This is such a great river. A trip to Mohawk Trail State Forest when you're here at Dunbar Brook is never a bad idea, and a day on the slopes of Berkshire East is just what you need. All through the summertime months here at Dunbar Brook, high temperatures frequently get into the 70's with night lows in the 50's.
